"Through the Open Window" now on Amazon!

My book is now on Amazon!

What is National Novel Writing Month?

Image
In "Through the Open Window." Lucy Lyons' life takes an interesting turn when she decides to take part in National Novel Writing Month. What is "National Novel Writing Month" anyway? Taking place in November, the goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in one month. It is writing, boot camp style. You simply immerse yourself in it. I did it last year. In fact that is how this novel came to be written at all. I actually didn't finish all in one month - it took me until January to finish, but it was well worth it. I loved the intensity of it and the surprise of where the characters took me. The sense of accomplishment at the end of it was amazing. I came into the last week of October last year wavering on whether to do it or not. It was something definitely on my "to-do" list. The idea of writing about someone doing National Novel Writing Month came to me October 30th. If any of you are interested in taking the plunge, check out the National Novel M...

A New Cover and a New Proof

Image
I received my proof on Thursday. It was very exciting to get in the mail! I immediately noticed some changes that needed to be made, however. One of these was the cover. So, what you see at the left is the latest (and hopefully the last!) version of the cover. I really do like the photograph. I think it really draws the viewer in and will hopefully help encourage them to read the book! I also needed to change the font size of the inside of the book. I had done it in 10pt font. It was readable, but I don't want anyone reading my book to suffer from eye strain, so I upped it to 11pt font which required some reformatting. While it was disappointing not to be able to offer my book for sale this week, I think that the changes made vastly improve the finished product and will be well worth the small delay. Now I am just waiting for the publishing company to approve my new files and then I can order a new proof. I will keep you posted!

Excitedly waiting the proof of my book!

Hi! Welcome to my blog. Thank you for stopping by! As I write this, the proof of my debut novel, "Through the Open Window" should be arriving in the mail any day now. I am both scared and excited to see it! Excited because seeing one's book in print is very cool. This is a whole new experience for me. I wrote this novel during National Novel Writing Month last year (it actually took me three months!) and that was an incredible adventure. I hadn't written fiction in a long time. It felt so good to get back into it. The story is about a character who is taking that plunge herself. The official description is as follows: Lucy Lyons is a woman trying to escape her past. Content to work as a librarian and live alone with her dog, all she wants is a simple life with no complications. When she decides to take the plunge and begins to write a novel during National Novel Writing Month, she gets much more than she bargained for. Her writing will not only force her to face he...
